Collaborative Negotiation and Conflict Resolution

This course is part of the QNET Certificate in Project Management (CPM)

Conflict is inevitable in negotiation. People will disagree on priorities, approaches, solutions, costs, timeframes, roles, responsibilities, services, etc. Professionals negotiate on a daily basis. Traditional (positional) negotiation techniques often result in:

  • Unwise agreements (or no agreement at all!)
  • Damaged relationships
  • Unresolved conflicts
  • Inefficient use of valuable resources and time

There is an alternative: collaborative (also known as principled) negotiation. This one day workshop focuses on collaborative conflict resolution and negotiation techniques through a combination of lecture and role play exercises.

Upon completion, attendees will be able to:

  • Define sources and levels of conflict in the workplace
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of five conflict resolution styles
  • Apply the appropriate conflict resolution style
  • Distinguish between positional negotiation and principled negotiation
  • Apply the four principles of negotiation to reach a collaborative agreement
  • Use strategies to surmount obstacles presented by obstinate negotiators
