Skills for Defusing Anger and Aggression in the Workplace

In many workplaces, hostility and aggression surface on a regular basis. From angry clients to frustrated or escalated co-workers to even coping with one’s own triggers – these situations can all challenge our ability to feel productive and safe and to be at our professional best.

Many leaders and learners have never had the opportunity to explore these intense emotions and situations in an educational setting and feel ill-equipped to deal with them when they arise. While it can singe and burn, underneath anger there is always powerful insight and energy waiting to be uncovered and re-directed.

In this one-day session, dynamic presentations and highly engaging case studies will be augmented with interactive exercises and group discussions. Activities designed to promote self-awareness and teach everyday practical skills will leave participants with both increased confidence and real-life capacity for responding to hostility, anger and aggression in positive, skillful, and life-changing ways in both the workplace and beyond.

The objectives of this session are to:

  • Gain self-awareness regarding your own history, assumptions/beliefs, and patterns of behaviour when it comes to anger.
  • Better understand anger, why people get angry, and the role that our bodies and minds play in the experience of conflict and anger.
  • Learn concrete skills and strategic frameworks for deescalating anger and skillfully removing yourself from encounters that are becoming unsafe.
  • Improve your overall sense of capability and confidence for dealing with anger “in the moment”.e looking to increase their ability to positively influence and/or manage others, including the challenge of “managing up” – increasing your ability to positively influence those you report to.

The facilitator was very engaging. Kept my attention throughout.

He was funny, engaging and kept the workshop flowing well. Very knowledgeable and made it a safe space to deal with difficult subjects.

Understanding the nested theory of anger to see the many different layers. I liked the interactive case study.
