Stories are a powerful way to connect, to engage, and to motivate people to take action. That makes story a “heavy lifter” when it comes to leadership.

Much has been made of using stories to influence others, but it goes beyond that. Stories are a compelling way to align a team to mission and values, open up conversations, build cohesion and commitment, and inspire goal-directed action.

The Power of Story is a half-day workshop designed to give leaders the tools they need to:

- Identify the essential elements of a powerful story.
- Discover your strongest leadership stories.
- Explore and practice winning story structures to take you from elevator pitch to difficult conversations; to inspiring actions and building winning teams.

Facilitator: Cate Friesen knows about the power of story. As the force behind The Story Source, she brings together 25 years of experience as an award-winning CBC producer, storyteller and documentary maker, a visionary leader, performer, trainer, and certified facilitator. Cate led the team that created CBC’s multiple award-winning interactive Missing and Murdered: The Unsolved Cases of Indigenous Women and Girls. She launched and led national shows on CBC Radio 1 & 2, and was instrumental in the creation of CBC’s game-changing, award-winning Indigenous Digital Unit. As a freelance broadcaster, Cate produced documentaries for radio, and hosted various radio shows. For over 15 years she worked as a singer-songwriter with a strong focus on storytelling, recording three CDs and performing extensively across Canada.

This workshop is presented by QNET in partnership with APICS Winnipeg Chapter, The Institute for Performance and Learning - Manitoba Chapter, and Manitoba Education and Training
